Re: Is 37 points enough to stay up ?
The home games against Burnley, Soton, Stoke and Everton will largely determine whether we stay up or not. 9 points from these games will see us safe, but we need to get an absolute minimum of 7 from this cluster otherwise we will be in trouble.

If it weren't for the way we set up, Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea could also be fixtures where we could potentially pick up points. Arsenal are in complete dissarray, Conte knows he's getting the push and can't be arsed anymore, and Man City will have won the league and potentially our game with them will be sandwiched between two legs of Champions League semi finals if they get there.

Only problem is Moyes will look to park the bus in all these game rather than attack and have a go like Brighton did today and the likes of Swansea and Bournemouth have done recently meaning we will lose all of them.

I predict this: Arsenal will be competing in the Champions League long before we escape either relegation battles or promotion from the championship. That's the difference between owners who are genuinely ambitious and those who are not!

Re: Is 37 points enough to stay up ?
We’re in trouble. The loss of Manu and Marco killed our recovery in its tracks. Now shipping goals. 3 at Brighton, 4 at Liverpool. 4 yesterday. Someone is going down on GD.

Re: Is 37 points enough to stay up ?
Only points I can see us potentially getting now are Burnley, Stoke, Southampton and Everton although the way Arsenal are at the moment you never know although that's probably the fixture that Arsenal will play the best they have in years!!!! If however we play like we have in recent weeks I can't see us beating any of them and will probably concede big time against Chelsea, United and City. It's in the stars that Allardyce could put us down!!

Re: Is 37 points enough to stay up ?
Even if we do stay-up this season (which we probably should do); it's only a question of time before those cheapskate wankers relegate us (again). Next season or the year after. It won't be long.

Re: Are 30 points enough to stay up ?
If we stay up, Sullivan will claim he got the transfers spot on in "this difficult transitional season".

Having found a "winning formula", he will then declare next season , before it starts,"a difficult transitional season" (but with a slightly different set of criteria) and, again, repeat this season's transfer strategy.

Customers...sorry...fans....will by then have been bludgeoned into thinking survival is synonymous with success and he can keep raping the club's assets to his heart's content.

The season after? A transitionally difficult one. The one after that? A difficult one with transitional overtones. After that they will just oscillate between "difficult" and "transitional" as that's all that will be expected.

We’ll win 2 more games this season. We’ll scrape staying up because there’s one team worse than us and two falling away

Re: Are 30 points enough to stay up ?
I think we will finish in the 37 - 40 pts range. Would be worried if GD were to become a factor, the way we are leaking and losing defenders to injuries.

Re: Are 30 points enough to stay up ?
There are maybe 5 or 6 winnable games in the remaining games so you would expect to get at least 39 or 40 points at the end. Should be enough, but any more shit like today will reduce the winnable games to zero.
What a fucking shambles Sullivan and co have ended up with this season. They really are the pits.

Re: Is 37 points enough to stay up ?
Well after todays performance we will be lucky to get 7 points. Teams at the bottom are working their socks off for points, we do not appear to be doing that.

Are 30 points enough to stay up ?
If WBA beat Crystal Palace and Stoke City, and Crystal Palace and Stoke City draw*, and these three teams lose all their other fixtures, then we are already safe.

*I'm assuming these three games have yet to be played. If any of these fixtures have already gone, things are looking even BETTER for us.

Re: Is 37 points enough to stay up ?
Reckon we may well need the 40 points to be safe.Remember under Grant we had 31 points with 9 games to go,and look what happened. We only got another 2 points from those final 9 games.

We'll be lucky to get 31 after that shower today

Re: Is 37 points enough to stay up ?
What will be will be, but we seem to have got back into the habit of shifting too many goals again.Shortage of good players won't help our run in one bit.

ironsofcanada 1:11 Sat Mar 3
Re: Is 37 points enough to stay up ?
Logic and math and our form say that we really should not worry, no matter how rubbish we think our players are (based on last week's game).

There are a lot of teams below us, we have more than enough winnable games and we have bounced back after bad losses with Moyes before.

Vexed 12:45 Sat Mar 3
Re: Is 37 points enough to stay up ?
14 points is super optimistic!

Re: Is 37 points enough to stay up ?
Some back of the envelope (literally) working out based on averages so far this season says we need 39 points to stay up. So we need 9 more. I think we'll get 14.

There are some very winable games there, of which we'll obviously lose a few, but we always get a couple of surprise results against the top teams so I'm optimistic.

Vexed 11:49 Sat Mar 3
Re: Is 37 points enough to stay up ?
I can only see a draw at best today as they're in really good form and we're a load of old shit.

DukeofDevo 11:14 Sat Mar 3
Re: Is 37 points enough to stay up ?
I'll be disappointed if we don't get a win today, we're practically back to full strength with some good attacking options.

The results from the next 5 games will decide if we're going to be safe for the run in. 8 points from the next 5 games and we're safe
It's just a shame we're back to working out what we've got to do to stay up rather than sitting in 7th /8th place looking down at a relegation fight that were not involved in!
